Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine continues along a long front line in the east and south, with long-range strikes by both sides.

Russia, with North Korean troops reported in combat
Army reports capturing al-Mazroub in North Kordofan in early October and inflicting losses on RSF–SPLM-N forces in Blue Nile, while air and drone strikes continue in Darfur and Kordofan; rights groups reported 30 civilians killed in a strike on a Nyala market on October 17, which the army says targeted RSF positions.
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are fighting for control of the country, especially in Darfur and Kordofan.
Gaza truce (since October 2025) and Lebanon truce (since April 16) both hold only nominally, with near-daily Israeli strikes reported and Israeli forces advancing near Beaufort ridge in south Lebanon.
The war that began with the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack continues in Gaza under fragile ceasefire terms, with recurring Israeli strikes in Gaza and southern Lebanon against Hezbollah.
No functioning ceasefire as of October 24; US–Iran talks on reopening Hormuz remain at an impasse amid maximalist demands, the US naval blockade of Iranian ports continues, and both sides have warned of renewed strikes.
US and Israeli strikes on Iran began in February 2026. An April ceasefire and a June memorandum did not hold, and lower-level strikes continue, including attacks around the Strait of Hormuz and on Iran-aligned militias in Iraq.
Fighting has intensified since July: Houthi forces besiege Taiz and a missile strike on a government camp reportedly killed 73, with about 250,000 displaced per the UN.
The Houthi movement controls the north and the capital and fights the internationally recognized government. The Houthis have also exchanged strikes with Israel and the United States over shipping and the Gaza war.
Countries involved
Saudi Arabia: Backs the government; truce with the Houthis largely holding
Airstrikes and ground fighting continue in Rakhine, Sagaing, Magway and Shan; military leader Min Aung Hlaing became president under a nominally civilian government in August.
Since the 2021 military coup, the junta has fought ethnic armed groups and pro-democracy resistance forces across much of the country.
Malian and Russian forces re-entered Kidal in early October; suspected Islamic State Sahel militants killed at least 40 civilians in Menaka on October 18.
Al-Qaeda-linked JNIM and Islamic State Sahel fight the military governments of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, with attacks spilling into northern Benin and Togo.
Countries involved
Russia: Africa Corps forces support Mali’s government
Border clashes continued after a four-hour exchange on October 17; Pakistan declared a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11 and no durable ceasefire is in place.
Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban government have fought along the border, linked to Pakistan’s accusation that Afghanistan shelters the Pakistani Taliban (TTP).

Syrian conflict (post-Assad)
Localized tensions in Suweida and central Syria; Israeli incursions in the south continue
After the fall of Assad, the new government has faced clashes with Kurdish-led forces, Druze and Alawite armed groups and Islamic State cells, along with Israeli strikes.
Gangs hold most of Port-au-Prince, elections planned for December have been postponed, and the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force (about 1,563 deployed) lost four Salvadoran soldiers missing on October 18.
Armed gang coalitions fight the police, an international support force and local self-defence groups for control of the capital and main roads.

A country is red when there is sustained armed fighting on its soil or its forces are in combat, whether against another country, rebels, insurgents or armed criminal groups. “War” marks large-scale fighting (roughly 1,000 or more deaths a year, the common research threshold); the rest are smaller but ongoing. The list is reviewed every day against these research trackers and the news sources on the left, and each review is dated.
Please note: this tracker is updated once a day by an automated review of the sources above (last on October 24, 2026) and is not real-time. Definitions of “war” and “armed conflict” vary, borders shown are approximate, and very small or local outbreaks may not appear. Being red is not a judgement about any side. Before you travel, always check your government’s official travel advice.
