Who runs your day

Every step in your routine serves one of four characters: the Architect (mind), the Herald (reach), the Steward (recovery and resources) and the Operator (body and action). Change your goals and watch the balance shift.

What I use for this routine

How it works

The rules behind every routine

Your bedtime is set from your wake-up time and sleep goal, so sleep is protected first. Then your morning, work hours and evening fill in around it. If a step doesn't fit a work day, it moves to your days off instead of eating into your sleep.

Anchor your wake-up time

The same wake time every day, days off included, does more for sleep and energy than any supplement.

Light first, screens last

Bright light in the morning and dim light at night keep your body clock on time, even on night shifts.

Hard things early

Willpower and focus are highest early in your day, so the workout and the hardest task go first.

Small and daily beats big and rare

Ten pages, ten minutes, thirty minutes. Little steps done every day compound.
